  Scholarship Opportunity for Future Physicians

  The Broward County Medical Association (BCMA) is pleased to announce the 2027 Cynthia Peterson Legacy Fund Scholarship for Future Physicians, established to honor Cynthia Peterson’s remarkable career and nearly three decades of dedicated service as BCMA’s Executive Vice President, from 1990 to 2024.

  This scholarship recognizes the promise of future physicians and their potential to make a meaningful contribution to healthcare in South Florida.

  Who is eligible to apply?

  Eligible applicants must be either:

  • Broward County residents who are enrolled in or have been accepted to an allopathic (MD) or osteopathic (DO) medical school, or
  • Students currently attending or accepted to an allopathic or osteopathic medical school located in Broward County, regardless of residency.

  

  Application deadline: November 16, 2026

  Applicants will need to submit a completed application, a personal statement (up to 800 words), two letters of recommendation, and the required academic transcript or documentation of medical school acceptance. The personal statement should address your career goals, your vision for improving healthcare in South Florida, how BCMA can serve young physicians, and how the scholarship would help you achieve your goals.

  Scholarship awards are determined by the BCMA Foundation based on its review of applications and supporting materials. Award amounts may vary depending on available Foundation funds. We invite recipients to receive their recognition at the 2027 BCMA Installation Gala on February 6th.

  We encourage all eligible students to apply and share this opportunity with fellow medical and osteopathic students who may qualify.

  This presentation will cover overall Retirement planning including the strategies that have proven successful to help avoid potential pitfalls. John Murphy, Senior Vice President/Wealth Advisor at Lenox Advisors, will cover Tax Planning, Investment Planning, Income Planning, and Estate Planning. During the workshop, he will review high-level strategies and case studies that will tie real-world issues into solutions.   The 8th Annual Miami-Dade and Broward Medical Research Competition for residents and medical students enrolled in Miami-Dade and Broward counties, will be held on March 6th, 2027. Finalists will present their research or clinical case reports before a panel of judges.

  This prestigious competition accepts abstracts that cover case reports, original research, quality improvement initiatives, and advocacy projects. It provides a platform for residents and medical students to showcase their work and contribute to the advancement of medical knowledge within the local and state medical community.

  The competition will be held at the Pullman Miami Airport, located at 5800 Waterford District Drive, Miami, Florida 33126.
