Scholarship Opportunity for Future Physicians

The Broward County Medical Association (BCMA) is pleased to announce the 2027 Cynthia Peterson Legacy Fund Scholarship for Future Physicians, established to honor Cynthia Peterson’s remarkable career and nearly three decades of dedicated service as BCMA’s Executive Vice President, from 1990 to 2024.

This scholarship recognizes the promise of future physicians and their potential to make a meaningful contribution to healthcare in South Florida.

Who is eligible to apply?

Eligible applicants must be either:

  • Broward County residents who are enrolled in or have been accepted to an allopathic (MD) or osteopathic (DO) medical school, or
  • Students currently attending or accepted to an allopathic or osteopathic medical school located in Broward County, regardless of residency.

Application deadline: November 16, 2026

Applicants will need to submit a completed application, a personal statement (up to 800 words), two letters of recommendation, and the required academic transcript or documentation of medical school acceptance. The personal statement should address your career goals, your vision for improving healthcare in South Florida, how BCMA can serve young physicians, and how the scholarship would help you achieve your goals.

Scholarship awards are determined by the BCMA Foundation based on its review of applications and supporting materials. Award amounts may vary depending on available Foundation funds. We invite recipients to receive their recognition at the 2027 BCMA Installation Gala on February 6th.

We encourage all eligible students to apply and share this opportunity with fellow medical and osteopathic students who may qualify.
